Taking a Leap of Faith in Idaho Nonprofits

A Leap of Faith for Those Who Serve

Yesterday, at Peppershock's Word of Mouth Mixer, I had the chance to speak with Zach and Vic Rowley, a young couple who are wise beyond their years (in other words, they have a plan for their life). In our conversation, I learned that his father was a USAF chaplain, which sparked an idea—what if I were to organize a Leap of Faith tandem jump specifically for military chaplains? Seems like a great group for me to take MY first jump with.

Let me take a quick step back. In my keynote, FORTUNE FAVORS THE BOLD, the US Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights, play a prominent role. I’ve been up in the air photographing them on several occasions, but I’ve never taken the leap myself. If I’m going to be credible as a courage keynoter, it only makes sense for me to jump, whether it’s on my bucket list or not.

It also got me thinking about how leap of faith resonates with those in the nonprofit world. How does your work in a nonprofit feel like a leap of faith? Every day, you take risks—seeking funding, advocating for your cause, and striving for impact in an unpredictable world. You believe in a mission bigger than yourself, often stepping into uncertainty with hope and determination.

Nonprofit work isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. Some days, it feels like jumping out of a plane without knowing exactly where you’ll land. Will the funding come through? Will your message resonate? Will the impact be enough? It takes courage, faith, and a deep belief in your mission to keep going.
